Retrofit Melbourne: supporting zero carbon ready commercial buildings

City of Melbourne

Nearly 60% of the municipality of Melbourne's greenhouse gas emissions come from commercial buildings; much of this coming from mid-tier grade buildings. Melbourne will fall short of its net zero emissions by 2040 target by 23% if nothing is done to retrofit buildings to be 'zero carbon ready', even if the electricity grid fully decarbonises. Jack will dive into how the eleven key initiatives in the Retrofit Melbourne report are designed to support zero carbon ready retrofits of commercial buildings and help achieve the city's emissions goals. Come along to find out how leaders can contribute to creating a greener, more sustainable Melbourne for all.

Andrew’s role is focussed on the design and delivery of large-scale private utility solutions, managing the process end to end. Nicole Johnston has been the Chair of a layered and staged community title scheme in Queensland for over 15 years. The scheme has 14 subsidiary bodies corporate and a principal. The scheme currently has seven different managing agents and a caretaker. She has experienced the complexities that arise for lot owners and committee members in governing a large-scale development. Nicole has led a number of research projects on topics including, building defects, strata insurance, strata law reform, fire safety, conflicts of interest, and developer governance responsibilities. She is a regular presenter at industry conferences, consults with governments, and has chaired numerous international forums.

Amy has extensive experience in telecommunications, having led a number of teams responsible for network operations, stakeholder engagement, power and utility management, commercial and contract management. Her passion is to provide the best possible customer experience by developing nbn’s products and services, both for current and future needs. Amy’s current focus is on providing outstanding digital connectivity for Australia’s townhouses, apartments and commercial buildings, to deliver upon nbn’s purpose – to lift the digital capability of Australia.

Michael is the head of the Quantum Group of companies which incorporates Quantum United Management, an owners corporation management and consulting business specialising in large scale residential communities throughout Victoria. Quantum CM Solutions a facilities management company and Q-Fit, a health and wellness services company. They have recently moved into the tech space designing and building various custom platforms to serve their communities.  He has been committed and passionate about the teams he’s built and their culture; with the DNA reflected within the Team Quantum Values of: Connection, Communication, Education and Leadership, Focus & Commitment and Being Awesome. He is also an Internationally accredited CMCA and a recent addition to the Board of the CAMICB.

Managing nearly 3,000 lots, she focuses on the management of large and complex strata schemes and Building Management Committees; with a high level of expertise in defect claims management and statutory warranty works. Suzi also manages a team of 4 Senior Strata Managers and oversee their direct reports, this is a total of 13 staff under her supervision.

As the CEO of the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA), Nic has over 20 years’ leadership experience, including appointments at the senior executive level within the community services and facility management sectors for both NGOs and local government. His roles have covered the entire spectrum of policy development and planning, program implementation and management. Nic chairs the Standards Australia technical committee MB-022, Facilities Management, and was involved in the development of the new ISO standards for facilities management.
