SCA-ACT-Logo-Colour.png

Strata Community Association (ACT) represent strata communities across the Australian Capital Territory.

SCA (ACT) proudly fulfills the dual roles of a professional organisation and consumer advocate - natural for the peak representative body, and membership is open to anyone with an interest in the efficient administration of strata schemes. Membership is therefore diverse, representing all of the major stakeholders in the strata sector, including strata managers, members of owners committees, in addition to allied professionals such as lawyers, accountants, real estate and on-site managers.

History

The first body corporate, or owners corporation was registered in the Australian Capital Territory in June 1971. In that time the Unit Titles Ordinance 1970 has been updated to become the Unit Titles Act 2001. Although strata management firms worked together in some areas relating to legislation, there was previously no formal body to provide a sound structure.

Wishing to have a structure and forum which would enable those working in the strata sector to enhance their professional services and responsibilities, the ACT's leading strata management firms established the Strata Managers Institute (ACT) - SMI (ACT).

SMI (ACT) was affiliated with the National Community Titles Institute (NCTI).

In 2011 NCTI re-branded as Strata Community Association. As with other state and territory affiliates, SMI (ACT) also adopted the new brand, becoming Strata Community Association (ACT).

SCA (ACT) has 11 Strata Management Corporate Members who manage over 44,000 lots across the ACT.
